Category:2009 softwareThe
Archbishop of Canterbury is first to acknowledge
that the Church’s teaching on homosexual practice is
incomplete, prejudiced and needs to be questioned.
He
is one of the foremost authorities on the Anglican
Church, yet, despite his position, he can
only acknowledge in private, in so far as the public
eye is allowed to witness, that the Church’s
teaching on homosexuality is far from infallible.
What
is being said in the quiet of his private
study must be viewed as being representative of a
range of experience among clergy and laity,
recognising in homosexual practice a degree of
sickness that may require compassion but
does not imply legitimacy.
He
must share this knowledge and experience with
those who have been affected by the Church’s
decision on the validity of homosexual practice.
That includes acknowledging what Canon Law terms
“irregular unions”, ac619d1d87
